Choose to Remember

Psalm 103:2 – Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefit.

Most activities have been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic and it can be easy to wallow in all our great losses during this season. I miss our gathering times at church. I will also miss our All School’s Day parade this year. Cancelled!

But with all our losses, it is necessary that we do not forget the many blessings and benefits from the Lord that continue.

When I looked out the dining room window this morning, I noticed the sun was shining in our yard. Yeah! It hasn’t been cancelled. Next, I noticed the many signs of spring; the squirrel scampering across the tree branch, the sound of birds chirping and dogs barking, and the green grass that seemed to grow an inch overnight. None of these things have been cancelled.

I also remember my many family and friends who are in the same boat as me. Although I haven’t seen many of you these past several days, I know that you are only a phone call, an email, or a text message away. I praise God this morning for my family, biological and spiritual.

I spoke with an Indiana brother in Christ last night. It was good to know that even long distant friendships continue.

Yes, many things have been cancelled. But it makes a great difference to remember that there is still much to praise God for even during these times of separation and cancellation.

Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.
