Bio: I have been serving as Lead Pastor at Countryside Covenant Church for the past ten years. Lynn and I were married 26 years ago and have three wonderful children together; Micah (20), Molly (18) and Mattea (15). Prior to moving to McPherson, I served as Pastor to Students for 19 years in Salina, KS, Chicago, IL and Lafayette, IN. I am fortunate to be married to a woman who is called and gifted in ministry. In the past, Lynn has served with me on church staff, but since our arrival here, she has served in a volunteer capacity in many areas including: Precepts Bible teacher, Worship Team, Women Ministry, Children’s Ministry, Prayer Ministry Small group Leader, and Discipleship Leader. But most importantly, she has been a dedicated wife and mother to our children.
Vision for Position: I love the fact that our church is known as a grace-filled church. We are all in need of God’s grace and are called to be dispensers of His grace to others. With that in mind, it is my vision that every believer is gifted for ministry and will only discover their primary purpose in life when their gift is being utilized to build up their fellow believers in the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-13 “It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith….”
Hobbies and Interests: I like playing tennis for exercise, camaraderie and pure recreation. I also enjoy spending extended time with Lynn on my days off. Often we will take day trips to explore the unique aspects of various Kansas towns – (ie. – museums, unique restaurants, shopping, historical sites). However, invariably trips will end up at Wal-Mart. We also love supporting our children in their various activities including orchestra, choir, drama, forensics, soccer and basketball….which also includes quite a bit of travel.
Spiritual Gifts: My primary gifts are all linked to my calling: Pastor/teacher, wisdom, encouragement and evangelism.
Favorites: Unfortunately I enjoy desserts and snacks of all kinds…thus my need for the exercise of tennis. I am also fond of pizza, cheeseburgers and chicken wings (medium to hot sauce).
I am an avid sports fan, especially college football and basketball (all Kansas teams and Purdue). I grew up cheering on the Buffalo Bills (unfortunately) but also support the KC Chiefs (a little more fortunate as of late).
I love reading biographies (and while on trips listening to books on CD).
I love spending time with my Lord, my wife, my kids and church family.
